Whitstable Town 2 Horsham 1: Gary Charman sent-off as Hornets lose on the road

They were unable to follow up the impressive 4-1 victory on Tuesday night over another Kent side, Hythe Town. Whitstable gained their first ever win against Horsham through a goal in each half by Kane Rowland and Ian Pulman. Hornets drew level just six minutes after the home team’s opener through a second goal in two games by new signing Troy Williams. Horsham made two changes from their winning midweek team with Charman and Jamie Hills dropping to the bench while Troy Williams made his first start and Lewis Hamilton returned to the side. They were still missing strikers Jamie Cade (work commitments) and Max Miller (injured). Rowland gave the Oystermen the lead in only the 12th minute when Jake MacKenzie delivered a cross from the right which he headed home. Kieron Tarbie nearly set-up an equaliser moments later with a shot across goal but Williams failed to connect. Troy Williams made it 1-1 after 18 minutes when he made no mistake with a ball teed up to his feet following a shot by Tony Nwachukwu which came after a mazy run by Harry Smith. Just before half-time Williams nearly gave Horsham the lead when he netted again but the goal was ruled to be offside. Whitstable made it 2-1 early in the second half created from a Scott Heard cross which Pulman nodded into the net. The Kent club put on the pressure during the second half after regaining the lead and created several chances before ending up deserved winners. Substitute Charman headed an equalising chance wide six minutes before the end and was then shown a red card after the final whistle had blown for something he said to referee Jack Packman.
