Low tree levels in Maybridge set to get a boost from ‘Big Plant’
School-children, residents and employees of scheme supporter Waitrose planted 480 trees in a green owned by Worthing Homes Ltd, in Raleigh Way.
The Big Tree Plant campaign – launched by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – aims to encourage people and communities to plant more trees in England’s towns, cities and neighbourhoods.

She said: “We are very short of trees in Worthing.
“Compared to county levels and across the UK we have actually got only five per cent tree coverage.
“We are really pleased we have got loads of people from the local community.
“The kids are doing a fantastic job planting nearly 500 trees.”
