LETTER: Valid tickets are rejected

This is not uncommon, but I would not agree that it is fare evasion all the time.
On leaving the station, I have noticed that many passengers’ tickets are valid, but are rejected by the barriers (station staff would confirm this).

Hide AdIt happens to me for probably one in five journeys, and with this problem it can be semi-mayhem with people trying to get out.
The apparent malfunction of these barriers could just be another facet of a failed company.
But as it happens so much, can we really blame Southern Rail?
Maybe the magnetic strip of the tickets could be altered by electromagnetic radiation, eg from close proximity to a mobile, or from a high power transmitter such as the Pease Pottage radar station.
Speculation, but it would be nice to get an answer.
