Here's why Sussex is the fourth most haunted place in the UK

Hell hounds, headless horsemen and fairies are all to blame for Sussex landing itself in the top four spot for most haunted places in the country.

While Yorkshire took the top spook spot, Sussex was close behind London and Essex to secure its title as the fourth most haunted part of the UK.

The survey was carried out by PsychicWorld.com to find out which counties have the highest number of paranormal sightings to date.

It also recorded the most common unearthly sightings, with phantom horses and riders being the most common, followed by legends of folklore, fairies, shucks and hell hounds, headless ghosts, women in white, animal ghosts, the devil, hidden treasure guardians and finally, ‘alien big cats’.

For many across the county, the news will come as no surprise with well documented ‘hauntings’ in a number of prominent areas and buildings including Cowdray ruins in Midhurst, The George Hotel in Crawley, The Mermaid Inn in Rye and many others.

As recorded by PsychicWorld.com, there have been 797 sightings in Yorkshire to date, 701 in London, 507 in Essex, 438 in Sussex, 434 in Dorset, 418 in Devon, 412 in Suffolk, 401 in Norfolk and 400 in Somerset.
