Smash and grab
The robbers escaped with a large sum of money, thought to be around 30,000, from the HSBC bank in the High Street.
The robbery happened just before 4am on Saturday after thieves had stolen the JCB from the Chiverton building site at Steyning Grammar School, off Horsham Road.

Hide AdPC Mike Dowling, from Steyning police, said thieves had used bolt cutters to get through the perimeter fence, before stealing the digger.
The robbers then used the vehicle to remove the cash machine from the bank wall and load it into a red Toyota pick-up truck, which had been stolen the day before in Storrington.
They made off in the Toyota and left the digger at the scene.
HSBC is now offering a reward of up to 15,000 for anyone who provides information which leads to the conviction of those involved.
The High Street was closed for much of Saturday while police examined the scene. The bank itself was open again for business on Monday.
