Chichester athletes boost Sussex in inter-counties... Tone Zone triumph again

There was a first win for the men and third place for the women, resulting in a combined overall runners-up spot. Ollie Smith continued his good streak of form in running just over the 48-second mark for second place in the 400m before being just edged out by Surrey in a close-fought 4x400m relay at the end of the match in 4min 20sec. George Grainger was in consistent form in both the 110m and 400m hurdles while Jess Breach won the B-string long jump, albeit just below her best. The one disappointment for Chichester was James Baker having to pull out of the steeplechase with hurdling injury after just a couple of laps, even more so as Baker would have been in with a chance of notching a win over 5,000m without barriers, a race won in just over 5.30. A busy couple of weeks for the Bognor Tone Zone Runners has seen some amazing achievements and plenty of personal bests. Simon Gill won the Round Hill Romp for the club in a time of 35min 34sec. Gill has been running extremely well this season and with plenty more races to come, he is eyeing more silverware. Felicity Paton came third in category in the Portsmouth XC five-mile race, bringing home an impressive cup, and Simon Bodsworth ran the Gants Head Marathon in 4.58.20. Tony Hancock finished the Southampton 10k in 43.37. Three intrepid Tone Zoners completed the Isle of Wight Ultra, a 38-mile challenge involving plenty of hills – Debbie Pacey, Sam Miles and Chris ‘leprechaun’ Gallagher were the triumphant trio. The ever-popular New Forest ten-mile race saw several Tone Zoners new to the distance achieve a nice follow-on race to the Bognor 10k. Gill came in first from the club, followed by Mark Williamson and Anthony Holcombe. The London 10k was run by five Tone Zoners in unseasonally-damp weather, providing for some sticky conditions underfoot. Chris Challager was closely followed by Gary Pudge, Colin Hiscock, Felicity Paton and Bushka Skladanek. In London, the 10k was run by Andy Miles and Moggs Glendennig.
