The Blues will be docked 10 points by the Football League once they come out of administration. They moved a step closer to that this week when the court case between administrators PKF and Portpin over the valuation of Fratton Park was set for April 10 or 11. But that may come too late for the points deduction to be imposed this term, leaving the club – under the ownership of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust – playing catch-up from day one of the 2013-14 campaign, likely to be in League Two. Whittingham said that scenario would be tough to take. But he admitted it was a scenario he’d accept if it meant the Blues were able to take to the pitch next season. ‘To start on minus-10 points would be a massive blow,’ said Whittingham. ‘But if you gave me now that we’re in League Two on minus-10 points, I’d take that. ‘At least I’d know the club would still be around. ‘For me, the points deduction hasn’t been a distraction. The only thing you want to do is make sure this club survives. ‘If we get 10 points now, we get 10 points. If we’ve got 10 points next season then it’s going to make it harder but at least the club’s playing. It may probably be in League Two, but at least it’s here.’ Despite the threat of a points deduction, Whittingham added the aim remained the same this season – to finish as high up the league table as possible. ‘What we’ve got to make sure is we get as many points so we actually stay up without the deduction, that’s our aim,’ he said. Pompey are currently 11 points off the safety mark.
