The club have six juniors who are at the level where they can compete in the league and all at the club wish them every success for the coming year.

The juniors now have their own organiser, Gordon Weller, who has played at the Selsey club for some time and is the husband of Alison, the ladies’ captain.

Juniors will be coached by Gordon, Matt Hurst, and Gary Hughes, the club’s professional. An open day will be held for boys and girls to visit the club and meet them on Saturday, March 28.

Matt and Gordon have strong ties with Selsey FC, Matt having played as a young boy and an adult for the club. It is hoped more young players will come along from the football club, from across the Manhood peninsula and beyond to try their hand at golf.

It’s a sport that can be enjoyed for life and offers untold opportunities to all level of players.

Selsey GC’s year has started as last year finished – hit by wet weather. Many of the weekly competitions have had to be cancelled and despite the huge effort by the groundstaff, the course has had to be closed on numerous occasions.

The Gunning Jug was played and this year was even more poignant as it was played in memory of Nigel Gunning, who passed away early last year. The winners this year were the Golf Club 8-3.

Competitions start in March for all sections of the club. Several social occasions will be held during February and March. The club captains’ cheese and wine evening and the ladies’ captain’s coffee morning are among events.
